My lessons are entirely flexible on the goals you would like to achieve throughout our time together. I've experienced and have experience with many pedagogic methods. If you want to complete an exam-based qualification, we will first and foremost learn the marking criteria and ways to apply them in exam conditions; we would work our way through gaining confidence by doing practice questions together and gradually allowing the autonomy to do them only with notes, eventually under the timed condition with no aids. With exams like at GCSE, there will be a spoken and written section where the key is to learn set phrases and be able to adapt them correctly based on the question; there will also be a listening and reading section where the key is to be able to pick key words out of a text. To aid all this, we will work through 'proper' French vocabulary, grammar and spelling. My philosophy regarding exams like this is not to be thrown into the deep end but rather be carefully accompanied to understanding the exam requirements. Students often feel overwhelmed and lost in a language that takes much longer than two years to understand fully; here, the essential is to take in the basics and form a mental checklist of what the exam board want. If your goal is to learn French to prepare for being in an entirely francophone environment, the approach will be much more holistic. As well as learning the basics of French grammar, we will also focus on colloquialisms and common phrases that may not be considered 'proper' French. We will be working with the assumption that you will have technological aids to help you remember certain things, the essential in not necessarily being correct but rather being understood. In our lessons, we may also cover French history and actualities to prepare for topics which are likely to come up in conversation.
