I use methods students are familiar with by relating my teaching to some real life scenarios or objects they've come across. The content of my lessons consists of key concepts they need to know about the topics we are covering, no bringing in of irrelevant discussions that won't help in understanding.
There will always be an interactive session with the students after each class to know if they are able to understand what have been taught and how better they understand it, this will help to know the ability of the students and also help the tutor to think about different approach that can be adopt for better understanding.

As an experienced teacher/tutor, based on my antecedent, I've been able to evaluate my students by giving assignment, class works to know their ability and also I've been able to work on their weaknesses by having one on one discussion to understand the causes and draft a solution for them.
