Hi, I’m Toni, I am a university student in Glasgow hoping to help you with your English! This is a very basic plan of how a tutoring session will look with me, though it is absolutely flexible to your learning style, whether you are visual, auditory or hands on learner! Whether you’re looking for revision help, presentation help, writing, analysing, understanding terminology or something more specific, I am here to give you a safe space to improve and learn.
We would begin most lessons by reviewing where you feel you still need help, and looking at any work you have done previously that you feel needs feedback or that we can learn from. (So that could include essays, mock exams, school work that you need more help with, or even work I have recommended.) Then we can discuss where you went well and where you need more support with.
We will find out why those areas are more difficult for you and how we can best support you. I will likely ask you to answer some practice questions, if it is written work, so we can see the improvement or see if the issue needs further targeting. If it’s a terminology problem, we will work on how to integrate terminology into your work and practice remembering the technical language and what it means. For speaking exams, we can work together to plan, write and practice performing your presentation. For analysing books and poetry, we will read it together and I can support you in how to analyse writing on your own as well as helping you analyse more difficult texts.
After the lesson we will review areas you have improved and areas to work on in the next lesson. If the improvement is good and consistent for a couple of lessons we can either move on to a different area or you can move on to independent study and come back for another lesson if you feel there is room for more improvement at a later date. If you still need more help I may integrate small exercises you can do to practice between lessons, these exercises shouldn’t take you more than half an hour and can be done throughout the week - so don’t worry if you already have homework!
