I have about a year of experience tutoring students in biology, chemistry and maths both online and in person, lessons usually last between 1 and 2 hours and I adjust the pace based on the level of understanding the student demonstrates throughout the lesson.
I myself was tutored and so I understand the experience from the perspective of the student and how bad it feels when things are rushed over and you feel like you don't have time to fully understand everything, that's why I have a thorough approach when it comes to teaching, always leaving time for questions after each new concept in case further explanation is required. I usually ask students to pick out which topics they find hardest/perform worst in as well as picking out a few specific topics myself which I find are difficult across the board. In a typical lesson I will generally start by explaining the concepts of the topic using textbook definitions and well thought out explanations, if they're comfortable with the new knowledge then I go through a couple of example exam questions on the given topic with the student, going step by step to create the model answer. I the student feels they they still don't quite understand it Im always make time to go through more example until the pattern emerges for them, then I like to set them a couple of example questions to complete unaided which I then mark and provide detailed feedback on.
I look forward to providing a thorough and complete understand of any tough topics to those in need of help.
