Tom Kaplan

Hello! I'm Tom from the UK. I am currently undertaking a degree in Maths and Stats at the University of Leeds, and I am looking forward to passing on my knowledge.

My goal is to make every lesson an enjoyable and rewarding experience for my students. I achieve this by tailoring my teaching style to their individual needs and incorporating interactive and creative methods to keep them engaged.

- I connect mathematical concepts to real-life situations that resonate with the student’s interests, such as sports statistics, budgeting, or puzzles, to show how maths is both practical and fascinating.

- I use games, quizzes, and challenges to transform learning into an interactive activity. Whether it’s competing to solve problems or using apps for math games, this keeps lessons lively and dynamic.

- I incorporate visual aids like graphs, diagrams, and videos, as well as hands-on activities using manipulatives or digital tools, to make abstract concepts easier to grasp.

- I encourage students to work through problems collaboratively, explaining their reasoning step-by-step. This builds their confidence and fosters a deeper understanding.

- I celebrate progress and achievements, no matter how small, to motivate students and help them enjoy the process of learning.

- I weave storytelling into lessons to make abstract concepts more relatable and use light humor to create a relaxed and supportive environment.

Having had 2+ years of experience with mentoring younger students in my school with maths and having achieved top grades in GCSE and A-level Maths, I believe that every student has potential in them and that it takes time and patience to hone their skills.
