I began tutoring privately after my A-Levels, largely during the holidays during my time at University. I built up around 150 hours of tutoring during this time. I have a real enjoyment for helping young people, which started much earlier than my
tutoring career when I helped to assist Drama workshops
in Salisbury.
As someone who themselves received tuition during my teenage years, I have seen first-hand how effective one-to-one tuition is, and realise the importance of building trust and confidence with a tutee. I had always relied on tutoring privately and word of mouth, and since moving to London six years ago I have done less and less due to work commitments. I worked for a film
production company that had very long hours, whilst the
weekends were used to focus on my personal film projects.
However, I went freelance in October of last year and am feeling very enthusiastic about getting back into tutoring. As such, I
have been brushing up on the more current curriculums in preparation for re-starting life as a tutor.
My area of expertise is the 11+, 13+ and entrance exams. I have a deep knowledge of most UK entrance exams, spanning from Grammar, State and Independent, the different types of exam format, such as ISEB, CAT, GL, CEM and the different internal exams independent schools use. I specialise in English, History and Geography, but am comfortable teaching science at this level as well. English I am also comfortable teaching up to A-Level as well, knowing all the plays, books and poetry studied, as well as skills building for the Language paper.
My current situation is that I am a freelance film-maker and image and film researcher, who also delves into productions from time to time. Due to the nature of freelance, I am looking for more structure with my working life, and as such I would like to commit to many consistent hours where I can then re-organise my other work around of.
I mainly work online, but I do have the ability to visit and tutor in person, as long as it is in South London.
