Dr Tom Gibbons

I use over two decades of experience of teaching, tutoring and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students in order to provide bespoke lessons to meet the needs of individual students. I use the socratic method in my tutoring which involves asking students questions in order to construct their learning in collaboration with them. I make use of the whiteboard and google docs to share ideas and collaborate on student work. I provide material to assist students in their independent learning in the form of documents, presentation slides and guidance sheets. I often share my screen with students to demonstrate how to find relevant material for their assessments and to present guidance on how to use specific methods of data collection and analysis. Due to my many years of experience, I am able to help students to effectively structure and format their work in a way that lecturers, supervisors and external examiners appreciate. Through many years of marking and providing feedback to university students at all levels, I am able to advise on ways to enhance all forms of written assessments and presentations as well as dissertation projects or research proposals. Through my experience of publishing books and journal articles as well as peer reviewing for journals, publishers and funding bodies, I am able to provide advice and support to students to enable them to present their ideas for maximum impact. As well as offering online lessons, outside of lessons I can also provide detailed written feedback on draft written work via email if required.
