I've been teaching English in Japan for eight years now but I'm relocating back to the UK with my family. I'm very experienced at teaching conversational english to adults and a mixture of teaching new grammar and vocabulary to children of all ages as well as getting them to actually use it!
My lessons are a mixture of conversation, games and bookwork. I also can give guidance giving short speeches, writing essays and how to do well in English interview tests.
The lesson format for children will start with some kind of icebreaker and then go on to cover some new language, grammar, conversation or questions often with some kind of game to keep things fun and entertaining. Then some solo speaking practice in the forms of speeches or roleplay plus listening tasks and advice on writing, where applicable. It really depends on what the student is looking for.

For adults and more advanced speakers we can also cover more in depth topics on how to talk about a variety of subjects, speeches and listening to natural speech. No lesson will be the same as I tailor make them to fit the students interests to prepare them to use their English in a practical manner and be able to talk about what interests them.

I have learned that the best way to keep students engaged in learning english and using it is to appeal to their own interests because that makes it real and a useful skill to apply in life, rather than repetitive bookwork and merely repeating the same phrases in a boring fashion. Although textbooks are useful they are only the beginning point in being able to utilise the skills you learn and retain the knowledge.
