As an educator, I have a accrued experience over the past 10 years tutoring pupils (key stage 2-5 and undergraduate) online and in-person as well as teaching in UK secondary schools. I have also taught SEND pupils at primary level in South Africa as a voluntary teacher. My journey in education began with tutoring KS2 pupils in preparation for 11+ exams, where I successfully guided them to achieve their goals. As I studied at university and post-graduation, the focus of my sessions shifted to tutoring at undergraduate level, empowering undergraduates to improve their articulation, develop conceptual and theoretical knowledge, and effectively plan and conduct research. Whilst working as a trainee and upon qualifying as a Teacher of Geography, my focus shifted towards GCSE level, focusing on subject knowledge and exam preparation. My methodology is multifaceted and designed to engage and challenge students at every level. My lessons typically begin with a knowledge recall activity to retrieve foundational knowledge and support the comprehension of new content. This would be followed by a deep delve into the subject matter, incorporating a variety of interactive activities (quizzes, higher order questioning, image analysis and extended writing), and ending with an exit-pass style plenary exercise - this is to measure that key takeaways of the lesson have been retained by the pupil. As a tutor, I am a patient and passionate individual, who is dedicated to fostering a love for geography and the social sciences. I strive to reveal the relevancy of subject content to everyday life through the provision of powerful knowledge and I seek to identify key strengths and areas for improvement to realise the success of my pupils. As a tutor, I aim to marry the imperative for academic excellence with the ambition for pupils to locate their priorities and to be the best that they can be.

I was very happy to have Tom as my tutor. He is friendly, patient, and really helped me understand parts of the curriculum I was struggling with by making complicated concepts a lot easier to get. The lessons were always fun and engaging and his sense of humour made the learning a lot better for me than it was at school and I looked forward to them. His teaching and resources gave me the confidence I needed to go into my exams and do well. Thanks Tom!
