I have many years of experience both in the classroom as a fully qualified teacher and as a private tutor.
When working with children and young adults it is imperative to keep a sense of fun while delivering lesson which are well planned and targeted to their individual needs and abilities.
It is important to establish a clear set of expectations from both parties. I like to start by talking to the parents about their child, their school experience, their personality, what they are hoping to achieve and how we can work together. I always suggest that the young learner should be on board with the decision of being tutored to help achieve the best outcome. Giving the children some ownership of their learning is very important, we are working together to make his/her journey easier and the subject more enjoyable. I always start by assessing the student and give feedback after each lesson, either directly after the lesson or by email. I set homework, when required, which can be sent back to me to mark.
If parents are looking for 7,8,11+ exam preparation, I can offer suggestions of schools and explain the procedures and expectations required when applying. It is very important to understand that apart from the academic aspect, children need to be introduced to time management, exam strategies and ways to relieve them from too much emotional stress.
I would be happy to discuss any of the above with you and answer any questions you might have.
