In addition to my vast academic knowledge gained by pursuing an undergraduate degree in psychology followed by two postgraduate degree is Clinical and Health Psychology, I also have experience teaching level 1 in a foreign language (Spanish).
My methods of teaching are student focused, as I recognise that each person has their own way of acquiring and retaining information. While psychological theories and interventions are specific to their creators, their content can only be utilised well if understood well and comprehensively. Hence, my approach to learning are more comprehension and concept based, as opposed to 'rote learning', which discourages application based thinking.
Content taught is based on support the student requires, in line with the curriculum of their educational institution. However, as I operate as a facilitator of knowledge, and I like to encourage students to find or create learning tools that are uniquely beneficial to them, which can then be transferrable in other aspects of their education and life. I encourage inquiry-based learning, and self-sufficiency. As university level learning in psychology is based in theories, I also like to employ learning devices such as mnemonics, in order to facilitate the recall of key points- as are found commonly in heavy psychological concepts and theories. This allows students to build a strong foundation, but also encourages active learning and conceptual comprehension.
My experience as a teacher has been wonderful, and I have found that with the right motivation, the students possess everything they need to excel in their learning. I see my role as a demonstrator and an enabler to maximise focused, active learning, in a calm, systematic manner.
