My process is quite simple but has proven to be very effective; it begins before the lesson, by preparing every lesson catered to the student and the subject matter they wish to work on in our lesson. Before any teaching, I will have a small conversation with the student discussing what might be certain focus points that they are weaker in and get a strong understanding of how they work in general and where their strengths are. Every student has a different approach to learning, this preliminary stage will narrow down how I can best teach them and through what methods I can do so. Usually, for GCSE level subjects, the student will already have textbooks from school, I recommend that it usually be our primary source of information so that the student is still in line with the teachings of the other students in their class however will take concepts from the book that aren't clear and explain them further with examples and questions aimed to progress their knowledge further. In the first part of the lesson, I give a general explanation of the topic making sure to highlight all the focal learning points and learning objectives. Once the student has shown that they understand the explanation, we will work together through GCSE level exam questions (for lower levels of learning - questions that pertain to their tests). This part is essential as I will teach them how to tackle a question the way the examiners are looking for and drill these exercises until the student has a strong grasp of the types of questions they could receive in class or in exams. Lastly, I always use the last 10 minutes to refresh the class and recap the crucial information making sure the student walks away from the lesson clearly about what the subject has thought them. I also give all students content and material online that they can use to refresh their knowledge whenever they may need to.
