My approach is very relaxed and informal - I don't think tuition should be like being in a classroom, I see it as more of a discussion between 2 people and students definitely get more out of sessions the more they contribute. At school, there often isn't time to ask all of the questions you ned to in order to fully understand complex content. Tutoring sessions give you the chance to ask them all! I have been tutoring for over 20 years so have vast subject knowledge but I remember what it was like trying to understand difficult ideas like action potentials and electron transport chains for the first time. I always try to explain things as simply as possible. If you are local to me I'm happy to pop over for face to face sessions, otherwise I usually use zoom to deliver online sessions. I have a graphics pad so I can doodle diagrams and produce concise notes containing all of the key words.
I studied Genetics at Newcastle University then took an M.Phil at Cambridge in Molecular Biology, I now work in the pharmaceutical industry where I help develop and produce the active ingredients for drugs treating diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's amongst others. My industrial background means I have a hands on experience of science in the real world rather than just in the classroom.
