The first meeting I would try and get a grasp on what the individual would like to learn or what needs to be covered. Then I'd set up a basic plan for both and them so they know what we will be covering. This would be gone over regularly to check it still relevant.

I'd then go through the topic regularly checking that the individual understands everything said.
I'd encourage the individual to ask questions but also to write any down incase they're are answered later on.
At the end of the session I'd go over what we learnt and any questions they still have.
I'd give them some questions or small activities to do for the following week (depending on the age and capabilities), I'd encourage them to research.
I'll then give a quick summary of what we will be covering the next session.
