My name is Thomas Turner, I come from a very underprivileged background with little access to quality education, with my high school receiving OFSTED reports of unsatisfactory for multiple running years. As a result, I had to learn effective methods for self-study, and have a unique perspective on both logical and visual based subjects, which is not taught in the "linear thinking" paradigm provided by most schools. By doing this, I am now studying my favourite subject at one of the top universities in the country. My goal alongside pursuing a career in Tech, is to give back to other students who may struggle with lack of access or ineffective teaching strategies for them, so that they can receive great results and strive for academic excellence.
I want to replace the traditional approach to teaching abstract subjects such as Maths, CS and Physics (also includes Psychology), with a visual and concept-based method. Instead of rote memorising formulae and ideas, students will be taught how to understand and solve problems intuitively. This will allow them to perform well in STEM-based subjects both at their current level and with future pursuits.
I have been a private tutor for over 1 year, specialising in teaching Mathematics at both GCSE and A-level. Here is the full set of subjects I provide services for:
1. GCSE Physics
2. GCSE + A-level Maths and Computer Science.
3. Undergraduate Computer Science (Year 1 Concepts & Machine Learning / Deep Learning). 4. Programming concepts.
5. GCSE / A-level Psychology
Includes support with homework built into the base rate.
My teaching method is remote over Zoom call (or preferred digital conference method) making use of digital whiteboards and pre-prepared materials, such as practice questions. My focus is a concept-based approach as opposed to “by the book” - the former of which is a more efficient learning method. I also direct students to extended reading and practice, which is vital to getting top grades.
