Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile!
Before we get into it, just very quickly about myself:
I’m Thomas (nice to meet you!) and despite my legal full name being Thomas Vincent Gibson, I’m half Japanese and half British. I grew up in Kyoto, Japan, and I came over to the U.K. back in 2008. I am a tutor as well as a translator, who bridges between English and Japanese.
I understand that, as humans, we never stop learning throughout our lives from the very moment we are born into this world—which is a universal fact that may allow us to even state that to live is to learn, and vice-versa.
Despite the fact that the above case applies to all humans, however, the learning speed of each individual differ due to various factors. Keeping this idea in mind, I will always ensure to carefully analyse and understand what the learner needs at each stage of the learning process and provide relevant, appropriate materials, so that they are able to develop in the most natural way possible at all times throughout their learning journey.
Our lessons for Japanese will make use of basic learning materials—like textbooks—and take traditional approaches in writing, listening, and speaking the language with proper guidance concerning techniques (e.g. spellings and pronunciation) but also include fun activities, such as word games or tailored conversation practices, where we will explore the various uses of the language outside of just simple communication. I believe that a traditional approach to learning a language using textbooks and conversations is of course effective, and therefore we will mainly be taking this approach in our lessons, although I also believe in having fun while learning as well—because who prefers to not have fun when you can, in fact, have fun, right?
We will by all means start from the very basics if the learner does not have any knowledge of the language, but if that is not the case, I will ensure that they start at the right stage by carefully studying their knowledge and experience of the language. No matter which level the learner is at, I can assure you that they will leave each lesson with useful phrases and knowledge that will help them feel confident by achieving a sense of accomplishment each time, and therefore allow them to have fun and look forward to their future lessons.
