Mathematics is a challenging subject for students. Some topics are difficult to understand. Many are abstract and counterintuitive. Catching up after missing a lesson, or not understanding the material the first time, is especially difficult and stressful.

I run sessions to help GCSE and A-Level students improve their skills and fill in gaps in their understanding. I can also help students revise what they learnt in GCSE before they start A-level, or help eager students learn topics they haven’t met yet in school, to give them a head start. I am available every day of the week between eleven and three for one hour Math sessions, to help students with the most challenging topics.

I will start lessons with a quick check to make sure the student remembers the topic from the previous lesson. This will usually be followed by 20 minutes of teaching and 40 minutes of questions, but that can be changed if need be.

During teaching, I will make sure my students can not only complete the questions, but also understand why the math works and encourage them to figure parts of it out themselves wherever possible.

During questions, I will give hints if it is needed, but I only give away answers as a last resort. I try to encourage the students to solve the questions themselves. I will not complete their homework for them.

I will check on all students’ progress and make sure they have learnt the material. If I am not sure a topic has been learnt completely, or could be/has been forgotten, I will set more questions to complete between lessons.
