My primary goal in teaching is always to help the student develop a habitual practice that will improve their level of physical comfort while walking, standing, sitting and sleeping. For some this might mean a slow and mindful practice, with an emphasis on pace and breathing, using props such as; the wall, tables and chairs. For other students this could mean mobility drills to build awareness and then strengthening poses to bring stability to the joints.
In the first class I would want to assess where the student is in their practice; complete beginner or experienced veteran and then understand what direction they want to go. If the purpose is therapeutic - recovering from an injury, then a prior meeting with a licensed physical therapist or doctor is always helpful.
Once goals are clear (a lot of this could be done through email) we could start the practice sessions and from class to class these can be adjusted according to feedback and results.
Meditation, Breathing techniques and philosophy could also be incorporated for those interested in yoga as a spiritual practice.
Looking forward to meeting you!
