My lessons will depend who you are. Whether you want it serious and straight to the point or fun and a little more engaging, both I can do. As a student who struggled with certain teaching types, I know that it’s about how the individual learns. I never properly understood, let alone excelled in the subjects that were stressed like Science or Maths. But I do have a deep rooted adoration for the arts: drama, Theatre, Music and English. With a GCSE and A-level in English literature and language I’ve always pursued the subject. However, I’m aware that for many, English is not a fun subject and it’s definitely not easy.

I know that I’ve been very fortunate having English as my first language and I’m not able to truly empathise with someone who is still learning. English to English speaking people is hard enough. The English language itself, is one of the most complex and contradictory languages there is. So to deal with the language and then have to decode the literature too, which often can feel like a whole other language together, it can feel like the impossible. But whether you’re a native speaker or not, I hope when detective to make the transition into understanding, the English subject better, a smooth and comfortable one.

As a student who, graduated just under two years ago, I’m still in touch with what the stress of academia can feel like. As a tutor, I promise to be understanding of any anxiety or fear of the subject. My planned sessions will be engaging, but in order for those to happen, I need students who are willing to be engaged. I expect solid attendance and a willingness to learn and with that you will learn.
