Thasshwin Mathanlal

I am a research fellow at the Department of Planetary Sciences, University of Aberdeen working on Space instrument development. I am the Systems Engineer of the HABIT instrument that will be launched to Mars in an upcoming JAXA mission ( Besides my work in the lab, I teach Masters in Space instrumentation and also undertake outreach teaching to school students of all age groups. I teach to students from a wide educational background and hence, my lectures are tailored to make it understandable for all domains. I handle lectures with insight from my lab research to address the students with the state of the art developments in a simple and easy to understand manner. Planetary Science is an interdisciplinary field and I have experience in STEM education. My strong point is Engineering (Mechanical - CAD modelling, 3D printing), Electronics (PCB Design and Embedded Programming), Technology (Programming - python, IoT) and Science (Physics, Chemistry).

Besides my teaching and lab skills, I promote innovation to think out of the box. I have participated in numerous field works from the Arctic to the Himalayas installing developed instrumentation. I have a good track record of publication in reputed journals and presented my research in International conferences. I was awarded the Global Swede Award 2019 during my PhD for Innovation from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Swedish Institute. I
