I taught an intermediate functional English skills class for 3years. I also taught in Thailand for 3months in 2 schools and with staff in a hotel. I have enjoyed teaching 1-2-1 as well with international university students.
I tend to use lots of presentations that include student participation. I try to tailor each lesson to the student and how they best learn. I try to find common ground with each student so that the subject will be something of interest, whether that is music, films, sport etc.
With functional English, I try to cover everything from going shopping to being able to use public transport. I will give lexis lessons for beginner students and for more advanced students, I like to also teach a few idioms each week as well to help fluency and understanding.
