I would start with a break the ice session, and warm up session with light speaking activities such as greetings, your name, where you live and how to meet and greet and introduce yourself.
I then usually use visual aids and practice speaking and listening. During this time, I encourage independent learning, and the student to freely express their strengths and weaknesses so I can observe and see what the student needs to concentrate on and how they can improve their speaking and understanding of English.
I would help the student with their reading and writing skills in English and encourage positive reinforcement at all times. I would thoroughly practice with the student how to pronounce words correctly, focusing on grammar and phonetics.
I feel it is important for the student to feel comfortable and free to express themselves without feeling inhabited by learning blockages and lack of confidence. I am a flexible teacher, and I like to mix up learning activities so that the student does not become bored or overwhelmed quickly.
My learning environment is laid back and stimulating. These classes are about expressing themselves through speaking and listening, so I do encourage lots of these activities in my lessons to build up confidence and speaking with quality and self assurance.
