I hold an MEng in Chemical Engineering and EngD (Engineering Doctorate) in Formulation Engineering as well as 500hr Diploma in Teaching Yoga and I am a qualified Massage Therapist. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, having taught and mentored Postgraduate students, and supervised Undergraduates when I worked at the University of Sheffield, and I am also a Chartered Engineer. I am currently training to become a Foundation Course 1 Tutor with the British Wheel of Yoga.
I have taught a large variety of people, from children to people in the 80s and from beginners to advanced. In my view, when teaching, there is no one size fits all, every lesson must be adapted to suit who I am teaching and it should be enjoyable! From both teaching academically and teaching yoga, I have found that everyone thinks differently and it is great to be able to explain things in several different ways so that, hopefully, one method fits the students well. I am aware of the different ways we learn and optimise this for students in everything I teach.
Although I often plan classes, I do not have to stick rigidly to the plan as often questions will lead us down other paths, and that's ok! I prefer to be student led and give you confidence to practice and learn by yourself. No question is too "silly". I can also offer help and advice on writing skills for science and engineering. I enjoy watching students grow in confidence.
