Susan Ashworth

I am an experienced teacher, and have taught maths, ESOL and English to a range of learners (maths to L2 Functional skills and English Functional Skills/GCSE). Over the past couple of years, I have been teaching GCSE English and FS English in FE, academic English support to students in HE and tutoring vulnerable school children in maths and English. I write lessons to suit the individual and break down their needs to make them feel more relaxed and confident. I have extensive experience of teaching online, so don't be nervous if you're new to this platform

I believe that a good teacher identifies strengths as well as weaknesses and monitors the impact of different strategies to improve motivation. I encourage learners to communicate their goals so that we can share experiences , foster new interests and incorporate appropriate aspects into the sessions. My aims are to build self-esteem, enjoyment and emotional resilience. I also feel that it is very important to communicate success with learners so that they value what they are doing.

Having extensive experience of a wide range of educational needs, I understand how to motivate people and focus on gaining people's trust. I have a bright and innovative approach and try to create a relaxed learning environment in my sessions. I am a published novelist and poet and regularly have short stories published. I am also a qualified hypnotherapist and find the counselling skills I use in my private work useful in developing working relationships. Please get in touch!
