I like to teach by engaging students in topics by using their personal interests. For example, a previous student I tutored for the 11+ had a hobby of building LEGO. I used LEGO as a learning tool to build their knowledge and confidence within Maths and non-verbal reasoning.
I have a very empathetic style of teaching. I believe that everyone learns best in different ways, from kinaesthetic, visual, audio and prescriptive learning. From my days being a pupil myself, I needed to read information to retain it - however, I learnt that my peers were sometimes better with listening or drawing in order to retain information. I strive to ensure that each pupil I tutor is learning in the most effective way possible by using an empathetic approach to understand what their learning style might be. It makes the world of difference!
