My passion for tutoring develops from my dissatisfaction within the school system to meet each child’s individual needs. In addition, from my many years of experiences working as academic/researcher and tutor in the university, I know for the fact that kids who discover math realise more of their true potential. Also, more course selection and hence career paths are available to kids who succeed in mathematics. Many researchers found that giving young kids a solid foundation in early math literacy is critical to their future academic success. This will also avoid the so-called math anxiety (math anxiety starts when children lag behind and unable to keep up). Hence, it is very important for young kids to have a very good math foundation as early as possible.
That’s why I have chosen to be a Math tutor for Pre-Schooler and Primary School student in the hope to bring out the potential in each young individual.
I have been tutoring and lab demonstrating tertiary students for many years in The University of Melbourne. I have attended the “Tutor and Demonstrator – Professional Development Program” organised by The University of Melbourne. Skills attained from this program include a basic understanding of how people learn, how to effectively promote active rather than passive learning, asking productive questions, providing useful feedback, learning how to manage complex or difficult situations and developing ways to identify whether students are learning.
In addition, I have been a marker/assessor for Engineering examinations and assignments at university level, hence I have deep knowledge of students’ common mistakes. To maximise exam outcome, these mistakes need to be rectified.
I'm very approachable and "down-to-earth" but will never compromise on ethical work standard. Equally importantly, I am passionate and dedicated to the pursuit of academic excellence.
