I am educated to post-degree level in both Literature subjects and Psychology and have taught Neuroscience and Social Work at university level for the OU. I like to start at where a learner is already at and begin to open up opportunities to advance learning by empathy and challenge (always ensuring people aren't held back by lack of confidence in going a step further even if it feels frightening). I like to work collaboratively.
I like to teach bot individuals and groups and use mixed methods (delivery of knowledge, skills and inculcating the most helpful values for learning and respecting others). I have taught at schools, HE colleges, universities and both online and face-to-face.
I think teaching relationships that aim to be command equal respect and empathy on both sides are best but know I have to work to gain trust, for learners' experience of past education can sometimes be off-putting at least and sometimes worse.
I think I like to encourage people to try out new ideas, skills and ways of feeling about the subjects they learn. Learning is holistic. It works better when people feel engaged as a whole but teachers should take responsibility for facilitating this. So give this a go. I look forward to hearing from you.
