My lessons would tailor around getting out and about and taking photos!! Its all well and good knowing how to use a camera (which I would also teach), however, gaining an eye for photography is more important and moulding your style.
Beginners I would start from scratch but always leaning towards the beauty of photography and all basic fundamentals would be taught. Once students are competent with a camera then I would teach them composition and getting the best out of your subjects.
