I had very strict Chinese parents who made sure i passed with flying colours with all my subjects during my primary to finishing high school.
During my primary school years, I had excel in my mathematics and learnt fractions and mental mathematics really fast, calculating it in my head.
I really enjoyed learning new problems and trying to solve them especially algebra, I always loved sharing what I know and ways of how I had approach the questions to my fellow peers.
In GCSE’s I purposely didn’t revise since I wanted to retake my exam since I loved the subject so much, call a little crazy for those who aren’t a fan of maths. I had achieved a B for the higher tier and was so disappointed since I couldn’t even retake it with only a couple marks to an A.
I still have all my mathematics workbooks that my strict Chinese mum swears by ensuring we passed. I had multiple of tutors growing up countless, so I definitely can say I know what it’s like and how it works.
I had lessons from Kip McGrath, Kumon, 4 private tutors for different subjects besides that I had multiple homework’s from those tutors besides school work, it might sound hectic but honestly looking at it, it’s not too frightening.
Lesson:
I want to make sure when I teach the lessons that I would like to hear the parents or child’s concerned in specific areas of maths in order for me to help them in finding ways for them to understand. I definitely will give out homework after each session and upcoming the next session the homework must be completed, there will be a starter work which is a timed mental maths questions that involved with a lot of wording questions to improve the student in understanding the question and learning how to approach it.
Afterwards, running through the questions to see which ones are correct, and working out together to let the student understand why if one of their answers is wrong, so they will know and understand. They will given another question similar to the one they had gotten wrong to approach it again by themselves, to see if they under and and work through it together if they really don’t understand.
Depending on the parents, students request on what they would like the students to learn for example to improve the speed in mental maths or specific maths problems.
With students who are studying around gcse levels or approaching it, I will work with them with exam questions from A* to C grades, ensuring they hit all the marks and showing them the method to approach it then working with multiple of questions for them to do. Basically practising several times so that they know how to approach the questions by themselves with ease.
For kids, who are younger I’ll teach them multiplication, training their mental maths, a simpler fractions, percentages and problem solving and little by little adding algebra within the questions too.
If there are any requests made by the parent or student I am 100% willing to cater the lessons to it or if the parent requires me not to give any homework or multiple homework, I am more than welcome to create them.
