Students are given a rundown on techniques to be used when presented with a particular to maximise marks in an exam, then I go through a basic example to demonstrate how these should be applied under exam-conditions.
The student will then be given questions slowly increasing in difficulty and abstraction to ensure they have full knowledge of the topic with the ability to ask for help when needed.
The key objectives of all lessons are for students to:
-Gain confidence in their own ability
-Understand how they could be assessed
-Have the ability to answer any and all questions an examiner could possibly ask
These techniques were what I used when doing my own exams, scoring A* grades in all GCSE subjects and A* in Maths, Further Maths, physics and Economics A-level.
My experience tutoring has shown me that students are primarily struggling with STEM subjects due to a lack of confidence when presented with questions dissimilar to what has been done in class work, failing to see the connection which needs to be made to knowledge they already have.
My tutoring style is the best way to fix this issue, students are able to make connections and develop the skills necessary to succeed in exams by bridging their own knowledge with new techniques taught to them by more abstract questions, they develop better understanding and ability, ultimately being more successful at the culmination of their year long efforts in the exams.
