My usual demeanor is very approachable. Following this, I do not let myself become too overbearing on my pupils. As much as I know that an authoritarian style is important for a teacher, the young people of this new technological age like when things are designed to meet their aspirations. Now, what meets their aspirations and what does not is a topic that can provoke many dialogues, so my job is always to pick a thing or two from their individual personalities and try to explain the importance of the syllabus around those things.
This approach does two things:
1) The pupils believe that they are given enough importance.
2) My students find it empowering to express themselves further.
This freedom of expression that I have them feel while teaching makes them fulfilled and confident about learning a complicated subject such as Maths.
