I have been tutoring French, German and Mathematics for 6 years now and whilst my experience is predominantly with school pupils aged between 6 and 18, I have also assisted my fellow students at university with their French studies to achieving academic success!
Lessons are usually conducted weekly or bi-weekly, lasting between 30 minutes to 1 hour (frequency and length negotiable). When in the run-up to exams or assessments, I am more than happy to increase the number of lessons delivered in preparation.
I aim to conduct lessons primarily in French from a young age to enhance the student's familiarity with the language and to engage all aspects of their learning—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—thus fostering comprehensive language acquisition.
I usually employ different online tools and websites during sessions as these provide variety and can be more engaging. This is dependent on the student - some find internet approaches confusing or distracting and I am happy to accommodate my methods to specific needs or preferences.
I have found that setting homework between sessions is beneficial to the student's progress. I discuss the quantity of homework with parents and guardians beforehand so as not to overwhelm the student's workload. It is a priority in my teaching that I do not amplify any stress students may already be under.
I find that regular consultations with parents/guardians are very helpful - collaboration between the lesson space and home is imperative for effective language learning and progress. I usually have a 5 to 10 minute conversation with parents after in-person sessions or a separate phone call at a mutually agreed upon time.
