Hello and how are you? Good morning or Good afternoon as the case maybe. My name is Sophia Javaid. I am an attorney in good standing from the United States. I have studied political science and French at the undergraduate level. I have studied law in the US at the graduate level. I completed my master of laws (LLM) in London in international refugee law, international arbitration law, commercial Arab law, and immigration law. I have also completed a course in international diplomacy at a leading university and focused on push/pull factors in migration. I have taught professional standards to UNHCR colleagues and to implementing partner colleagues on prevention of sexual abuse and exploitation using an ethics lens. As a tutor, I will use an interactive format known as the socratic method. This means that it is a conversation or a dialogue rather than a lecture aimed at students. I ask leading questions which will lead the student to grasp the main elements of the lesson and come up with their own conclusions. This creates an atmosphere of trust and creativity. The content of the lessons will depend on what is needed and I can work with you to pinpoint your needs. Overall, I have 13.5 years experience as an international legal professional on the subject of refugee law with UNHCR, one year experience in litigation and arbitration, two summers in employment discrimination litigation, and one year experience in the local Nassau county court (motion practice, service of process, etc).
