I spent time tutoring younger years while I was in secondary school / sixth form. Lessons are taken at the student's pace and emphasis is always on their understanding of the material. I have experience in helping students with learning disabilities and have a wealth of patience for anybody struggling even with something that may be considered "simple". Every student has different strengths and they deserve the best opportunities available to them regardless of what those strengths are. Should a student have a specific learning disability or any other difficulties I prefer to be told ahead of time so that I can tailor the presentation of the material to suit their abilities and individual needs. As a student who struggled with learning disabilities myself, I am empathetic to the diverse range of experiences that students may face.
School can be a difficult experience even without any additional challenges. Students who need extra support in the form of tutoring should not be made to feel stupid or inadequate, I have met many students who feel very negatively about the fact that they are in tutoring. My goal when working with students is to improve their understanding while ensuring their confidence in their abilities is strengthened.
I believe that every child has the potential for success when they are given adequate support and encouragement. There is no student for whom failure is a guarantee.
