I will begin with a free taster session for the student to discuss how they’re feeling about the subject (in regards to what grades they’re currently achieving and what grades they’d like to achieve in the near future), and how they’d like to structure their lesson to make it as effective as possible whilst still remaining in their comfort zone. I’d like to push my students however i’m very wellbeing conscious and believe mental health comes before grades in all cases - hence I’d never want to put any extra stress on my students as being a student myself I understand very well how it is to be under exam pressure. Prior to the lesson I will ask which topic(s) the student like to go through and then base my lesson around that. We will begin by doing short exam questions to see what we need to target and then go from there. We will go through topics either by video and/or reading to ensure the student grasps a deep understanding, throughout the lesson I will be asking them rapid-fire questions to keep them engaged and to let me know they’re understanding, rather than me asking if they’re understanding and being met with a “mhm” or “yes” when in reality they’re not paying attention (from my experience as a student). Towards the end of the lesson we would practice exam techniques to make sure the student knows how to answer questions in the correct manner to secure the top grades and (for the younger years) get ahead of class!
