I am a confident, outgoing science teacher specialising in biology. I am also confident in chemistry and physics. I currently teach KS3 and GCSE students following the AQA exam board, I am also confident teaching Edexcel and OCR.
From September 2024, I will be adding A level Biology (Year 12 ONLY).
I strive to make all of science accessible and enjoyable for students, relating topics to real life, and working through areas student find tough until it clicks for them.
My aim with tutoring is to spend the time with a student, understanding their barriers and working on any area that they need as much as they need until they feel more happy with it. I am fully aware that science can be a barrier for some students and I aim to make the subjects more engaging and approachable. This knowledge and understanding can then be built on using exam questions to cement their understanding and hopefully it is then embedded ready for exams. Looking over exam questions is the best form of revision, but it also is a way to show students how similar questions are year and year and hopefully remove some of fear surrounding GCSEs.
I am a teacher who prides herself on building positive relationships with students, both in the classroom and as a form teacher. I believe these positive relationships are the best way for students to feel confident in their own abilities and bring out the belief that they can do anything.
depending on student requirements, I start by using lessons from school (my own design/ activities) to go back over knowledge, then build on this by incorporating exam questions where necessary.
I also like to use certain revision materials (provided by me) to work on building confidence and knowledge as part of homework tasks. I can also work on going over lessons in school- if a student is doing a particular topic and is finding it difficult, it is often more beneficial to do this on a one to one basis, spending more time on a lesson than is often given over in a classroom setting.
All students who I have tutored have found these varied methods offer them the best chance of success.
I have been tutoring for the last 7 years, working mostly with students in year 10, and then continuing with them into year 11. This has allowed me to build positive relationships with them, know when to push them, help their confidence and see them shine.
Depending on what the student requires, I do the following:
- recap topic knowledge including mini assessments and often homework in the form of exam questions
- focus on exam technique including practise papers and how to answer all types of questions
- pure knowledge recap
- revision techniques
