The first thing we would do in our opening session is to determine a) where you are as a learner and what your goals are. What happens next would vary based on your (or your student's) age and skill level. If I'm working with a student in primary school my lesson will look different than if I am working with a student at university or a corporate client. Once I've conducted a diagnostic, assessed your skill level and determined your goals, then the adventure begins.
My lessons are designed to interest and engage each learner, with lessons that are continuous and where skill sets are explored, mastered and built upon. Basically, this means that you should be learning and able to apply your skills during and after our lessons. Typically, in a 45-60 minute session, we will explore an introductory topic (bellringer), the main event (the topic/skill set being explored) and have time for practice/application. I tend to focus on skills in the following order: listening, speaking, reading and writing so you can expect to have lots of opportunities to hear French and to speak it as well. I use as much "realia" (real world materials such as music videos, news articles, advertisements, etc.) as possible and I do my best to incorporate student interests into the lessons and activities. While I'm serious about what I do, that does not mean we have to be unsmiling as we learn. I do my very best to encourage, engage and enliven our time together.
