As it was not in the list of options on the application, I also note here that I speak Ukrainian to a good conversational standard.
I have never taught professionally, but have long and varied experience in teaching English as a foreign language, including but not limited to the following:
: Helping run an International Café in Bournemouth, England for students from around the world. This was mostly about opportunities for conversational practice as well as presentations / story-telling and follow-up discussion.
: Helping run Mariupol English Club in eastern Ukraine. This was attended by up to around 50 students of all ages and backgrounds, with a similar style to the Bournemouth café but an additional focus on learning new vocabulary and grammar.
2008: Assisted a teacher from China in teaching English to refugees from Iran living in Kyiv, Ukraine(!)
: Taught school-aged children (small group classes or 1-to1 tutoring) through a small language school in a town south of Kyiv, working through age-appropriate resources.
: Helped Highland International Church run “Learning English through games, conversation and bible stories” sessions for Ukrainian refugees staying in a Highland hotel.
2024: Helping run English classes (at three different levels) in Inverness, working through structured materials, for people arriving in the Scottish Highlands from around the world.
