I have recently completed an MSci degree in Biochemistry at the University of Bristol and graduated with first-class honours. With a solid academic background, highly effective communication skills, and a proven ability to thrive in challenging environments, I am confident in my ability to help students achieve their full potential.
I developed my passion for teaching during a mentorship project that I volunteered for prior to the start of my degree. It was called Project Akshar and was affiliated with a school located in Bangalore, India. As part of this project, I spent 8-hours every week for a period of 8 months with an under-privileged female student at her home, tutoring her in Maths, Science and English. When I met my mentee, she was struggling with her studies and was on the verge of needing to repeat the year if she failed any more exams. I worked hard to prepare lesson plans for each session to ensure that our time was spent productively. I also prepared assessments for her to mark her progress. Our hard work paid off because she ended the year as one of the top five students in her grade. I wish to keep contributing to improving students’ performances and find it fulfilling to help them realise their huge potential.
I believe one of my key strengths lies in my highly effective verbal and written communication skills. I used these skills to excel in my recent role as a Student Services Ambassador as I was able to effectively communicate with students, staff, parents and commercial agents. In my second year of university, I took up a job as a peer mentor, to help new students transition into university-life. Through this role, I learned how fruitful it is to apply the knowledge I gathered from my personal experiences to helping others who may encounter similar situations.
I am enthusiastic about the prospect of interacting with bright young minds and would welcome the opportunity to discuss how my qualifications align with the student's needs.
