I have been tutoring for the last 5 years. From what I have learned, when it comes to English, is that a language gets easier the more accessible it is. I make sure that the student doesn't get scared of the language and instead embraces it. I make presentations in the form of Word Documents and PPTs, and i give examples from real life for the student to relate to. When it comes to learning a language as colorful as English, it is necessary to start from the ground up. I have a rather funny and friendly manner because I don't think that strictness or rigourous memorisation ever helps in learning a language.
I make the student understand by citing lines from books and films. I make sure the student is calm, collected and composed. I clear all doubts without judgement and I give out homework only if the student feels that its needed. My motto is simple- make the person fall in love with the language. English is not as hard as people make it out to be. In today's day and age, grammatical mistakes are aplenty, especially in colloquial English. I'll make sure that the student does not make such errors and has a more refined way of speaking. I have taught people of all ages and being an English Major myself, I know how to teach English without making it bland or boring. The students will be in for a fun time, regardless of how difficult their journey might be.
