Sibongile Zhuwarara

I am a mature lady with IELTS qualification in both Academic and General Training. Having been an English speaker in a non-English speaking country for over forty years, I have gained a deep understanding of the challenges and needs of learners who's first language is not English. I break down my lessons into four main categories with equal weighting; that is Writing, Speaking, Listening and Reading. I prefer to teach adults from high school age and above, and I work best with individuals and groups of less than twenty.

My plan is to first find out what areas learners would like to gain understanding or improve on. I then ask relevant questions to assess the student's level of English proficiency. With this knowledge, I then structure a customised learning package, which includes theory, use of real life examples and practical exercises and tests. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions and revise particularly difficult topics, with the sessions being highly interactive to enable engagement and cross-learning. I also share links to additional study materials on various media platforms such as YouTube.

Ultimately, I aim to improve my students' English proficiency to a point where they can effectively communicate in both formal and informal settings and for different purposes. At the end of my course I will provide a certificate of attendance, and a recommendation letter for the student. I will remain available to provide references where appropriate. My students will be given a platform to provide feedback that I will use for self improvement, and their reviews will be made visible on my profile.
