Content: Introduction to course, Urban Trends and Dynamics, What does ‘urban’ mean – putting cities into context, Key urban concepts and definitions, Fundamentals of cities, The origins and growth of cities – a historical overview, Models and Theories of Urban Spatial Structure (Sjobergs’s pre-industrial city model; Burgess concentric zone model; Hoyt’s model of urban structure; Harris and Ullman’s multiple nuclei model; the Bid-Rent theory of urban land use), Urbanization within Global Context, Urban Planning – history and contemporary issues of city planning, Contemporary Urban Development Issues - Future Planning, Smart Cities, Smart Growth, Urban Policy and Governance.

Professional Experience: I hold an undergraduate degree in Geography from Miranda House, University of Delhi, India. I qualified UGC Net certification in Geography for Lectureship/Assistant Professor. I hold a Master's degree in Urban Policy and Governance (specialised field in Geography) from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. I have two years of experience working with the UK and Indian governments as a Researcher. I also had the opportunity to work for top urban development projects such as Heathrow Airport Expansion, High-Speed Rail 2, Thames Tideway Tunnel Scheme, and Transpennine Route Upgrade, where I could showcase my geospatial skills.
