I believe that the best lessons are caught rather than taught. Until the exam season approaches, I believe that it is best for the students long-term understanding and appreciation of the subject, to be taught from first principles. It is this format of lesson which I believe most students engage with the best. I conduct my lessons online using a smart board for presentation and try to actively converse with the student trying my best to create a very casual environment where they feel comfortable to ask questions. I actively encourage students to think out loud so I can follow their thought process and offer suggestions where I feel there is a flaw in reasoning. In STEM as a whole, I believe the fundamental skill which translates most to success in public examinations and beyond, is the ability to reason and solve problems systematically. It is this skill that I want to cultivate in my students as they will be best served to do really well in public exams and also to pursue the subject further should they be interested. I also understand the importance of public examinations and closer to the exam I switch the style of my lessons to cater more towards gaining as many marks as possible. I have done very well in public exams in the past achieving a grade 9 in physics, mathematics and chemistry at GCSE and an A* in all three subjects at A-level also. The approach I have used to my own education has allowed me to enjoy and appreciate my subjects while also faring well in exams, it is with this mindset that I conduct my lessons, hoping all my students can experience the same success I have.
