I believe in modifying my teaching techniques as per the needs of the student. No two students learn in the same manner, and the recognition of each student's strengths and weaknesses is imperative.
My teaching technique is usually conversational, allowing room for spirited deliberation for a better understanding of the concepts in Mathematics. I like to break down the concepts into small, easily digestible parts, and tackle them one by one.
For younger students, I tend to use inputs other than just books to facilitate a better grasp of the concepts. For example, the Use of Dice to learn addition, and the use of plastic straws and paper cutouts to understand Pythagoras' theorem.
For my older students, I often engage them by asking them what they know about the topic and work my way upward from there.
I also find positive reinforcement to be a very helpful tool. I make sure my students remain motivated, by complimenting them and playing small games during breaks. I encourage informal exchanges useful to connect better with my students, as a strong tutor-student rapport is essential for better learning.
I am an empathetic teacher, who understands what it is like to be afraid of numbers. Therefore, I believe that together we can find the best way forward and improve our Math skills!
