My ultimate aim is that students better understand and enjoy the amazing subject of music. I hope they will take away what they have learned and develop a lifelong love and interest in music. Though music is in no way ultimately about passing exams, there is of course the educational reality of knowledge and skills being tested in this way, and I have over thirty years' experience of preparing students for mainly ABRSM exams, but also Trinity, from Grade 1 to Diploma level, and I am confident my track record of student success speaks for itself.
I have a great deal of experience in helping students to obtain the all-important ABRSM Grade 5 Theory - most recently I have written an entire theory syllabus modelled on the ABRSM's own, for a Chinese educational company.
Additionally, I have helped private students in aspects of, for example, GCSE music, particularly composing, and 'A' level students in history and analysis.
I consider it vital to understand what the student's aims are to begin with, so that teacher and pupil can work in tandem to reach the best possible outcome. I believe I am personable and able to get along with, and empathise with, all ages of student - from the youngest beginner to the adult playing for pleasure in retirement.
I am fortunate enough to be regularly contacted by students I taught as children who are now adults with busy lives and who are still playing the piano and enjoying the lifelong benefits and pleasures of music.
