I use to work in a nursery before spending 4 years getting my BSc honors in Psychology. However since then I have also continued to do part time babysitting for children between ages 5-7. I base my teaching methods on the individual. I like to figure out what grabs their attention or give them a few methods and allow them to pick what they find easier for them. I usually gravitate to using flash cards and using key words or numbers that help a child remember points/ to break down what’s being said. I believe a child will only learn in a way that works for them and my job is to encourage that type of learning rather than giving them methods that do not help them.
