I like to use presentations tailored to each individual student. There is no "one size fits all" tutoring with me. I prefer interactive lessons during which students can interrupt and ask as many questions as they like, and need, to be able to fully understand the topic. I like to use real life examples, where possible, to relate the topics back to things that are more easily understood. I believe biology should be fun and so always bring a very positive attitude to my lessons and strive to create a chilled environment that allows the students to feel more comfortable with me. In my opinion, this creates a healthier learning environment for the student, allowing them to make the most of each lesson and advance their knowledge.
I like to use powerpoint presentations to teach the fundamentals, then use past paper questions to solidify the knowledge. I believe past paper questions are the key to successfully passing exams. If I feel a student is not grasping a particular area that well then I will re-think my teaching methods until I find a way that works for that individual. I understand the differences between individual's learning needs and I am willing to do whatever is necessary to help students strive. There are areas that I am more interested in, however that does not mean that I will skip over any areas I do not enjoy as much. It is important that students have a full, well-rounded knowledge of the entire course in order to pass exams.
