My teaching experience is varied consisting of different learning styles of students. I generally explain concepts visually, verbally or using analogies of real-life examples. This impacts the student to understand a concept of a complex topic through their common hobbies and interest and the general social norms of society. I execute a slow and clear approach in my communication, emphasizing key terminology used for the student to understand. I request the student to use the same terminology to assess their understanding by mirroring my application of math keywords.
I focus on observing knowledge gaps in the student's knowledge and rectifying their misunderstanding using analogies. Students can have understanding of a exam question but lack a key component to solve the complete question. Hence I would revise that topic with the student in the questions and provide further questions to recall their knowledge on the matter fully.
I create lesson slides and introduce the lesson plan at the start of the lesson. I will give students a warm-up exercise on pre-requisite knowledge for a new topic and introduce new mathematical terminology. I use an online whiteboard to draw and explain concepts whilst allowing students to mention ideas that come across their minds to actively recall information and enhance a topic.
I share external resources to explain visual concepts such as graphs, linear algebra, functions and geometry. I also integrate online quizzes into the lesson to maintain engagement of students through a different approach. This prevents boredom from the child`s perspective having predictable lessons.
