I believe in starting from basics to have a better understanding of the main solution. For example my lessons will alway start of with a summary of what will be covered that day and then I would ask my student what topic they would like to cover first which gives me an idea of what they are struggling on and what they find comfortable solving. That why we aim to solve the problems that are more challenging for the student then go over the stuff they already know and feel comfortable solving. Only this way they will be able to move on to the next level comfortable.
