I am a recent graudate from the University of Oxford where I recieved a 2.1 reading Geography at St Edmund Hall. I am an experienced tutor of 3 years and have been passionate about my subject since I was 8 years old - but this does not mean I necessarily found the stress of doing yearly exams, GCSEs, A Levels and then University easy! I myself know the benefits that private tutoring can bring and it can be an excellent resource for students looking for mentoring, help in revising a topic, re-affirming the foundations of a topic and striving for top grades.
Each student is entirely different from the last. Having tutored from ages 8-16, I am experienced in adapting for each mentee and working to the goals that we set together. I therefore use a very flexible format, where in the first session we (this can include both students and parents) talk about what each student requires from the sessions, where they would like to get to and the content, textbooks, and exam boards they are currently working with. From this point, I devise a schedule that covers all bases. I find discussion to be useful in tutorials - where I will ask questions that increasingly get more challenging and when a student begins to struggle we revise that topic together. If it is beneficial to the student, I can also set homework that I am happy to mark outside of hours.
This method works excellently in terms of private tutoring as we are specifically targeting the areas that will help them excel beyond the classroom.
